Japanese Sentence Patterns

【JLPT N3★あまりに (amari ni): so much…, too…】 

Meaning: too…; so much; too much; excessively

あまりに and あまり both mean “so much…”, however the placement is totally different. あまりに is placed before verbs, adjectives and Nouns, not after.

Formation:
あまり/あまりに/あまりにも + Verb
あまり/あまりに/あまりにも + Adverb
あまり/あまりに/あまりにも + Adjective
あまりの + Noun

(1)最近あまりに暑すぎる / 暑すぎます。
(2)あなたは起きるのがあまりに遅すぎる / 遅すぎます。
(3)彼の演説はあまりにも短すぎた / 短すぎました。
(4)私はあまりにも忙しくてその本を読めない / 本を読めません。
(5)あまりに疲れていたので、早く寝た / 早く寝ました。
(6)あなたの仕事があまりに速いので、私は驚いている / 驚いています。

英語 / えいご / English
(1) It is too hot recently.
(2) You wake up too late.
(3) His speech was too short.
(4) I am so busy that I cannot read that book.
(5) Since I was so tired, I went to bed early.
(6) I am surprised because your work is so fast.

ローマ字 / Roman letters
(1) Saikin amari ni atsu sugiru / atsu sugimasu.
(2) Anata wa okiru no ga amari ni oso sugiru / oso sugimasu.
(3) Kare no enzetsu wa amari ni mo mijika sugita/ mijika sugimashita.
(4) Watashi wa amari ni mo isogashikute sono hon o yomenai / hon o yomemasen.
(5) Amari ni tsukarete ita node, hayaku neta / hayaku nemashita.
(6) Anata no shigoto ga amari ni hayai node, watashi wa odoroite iru/ odoroite imasu.
