【JLPT N5★ informal past tense for ru-verbs】

To change a ru-verb from the dictionary form into the past tense, you simply drop the 「る」 and add 「た」.

日本語 / にほんご / Japanese
(1)今日、私は早く起きた。
(2)昨晩、私は早く寝た。
(3)私は最近、タバコをやめた。
(4)彼は家に帰った。
(5)今日の私の仕事は終わった。

英語 / えいご / English
(1)Today I got up early.
(2)Last night I went to bed early.
(3)I stopped smoking recently.
(4)He returned home.
(5)I finished my work for today.

起きる 【おきる】to get up
寝る 【ねる】to go to bed
やめる 【–】to stop
帰る 【かえる】to return, to go home
終わる 【おわる】to finish

ひらがな / Hiragana
(1)きょう、わたしは はやくおきた。
(2)さくばん、わたしは はやくねた。
(3)わたしは さいきん たばこを やめた。
(4)かれは いえに かえった。
(5)きょうの わたしの しごとは おわった。

ローマ字 / Roman characters
(1)Kyô watashi wa hayaku okita.
(2)Sakuban, watashi wa hayaku neta.
(3)Watashi wa saikin tabako o yameta.
